20 Park Place is situated on the eastern side of Park Place overlooking the southern end of Cathays Park. The building is Grade I listed, is within the Windsor Place Conservation Area and is recorded in the National Monuments Record. A detached town house originally constructed between 1871~75 by the Marquess of Bute for his Chief Engineer, J M’Connochie.

The proposed project continues the previous use as a restaurant, supplemented by occasional use as a wedding venue including the repair of the listed building generally, together with enhancement of the immediate surroundings to the north, east and west. Alterations to the existing east and south extensions are also proposed including the replacement of the existing glass-clad extension with a bespoke new extension. Internally, comprises the restoration of the main hall and ground floor rooms generally, alterations being concentrated on the basement, first and second floors (and where the building has been substantially altered in the past). The M&E systems in particular need to be replaced/upgraded generally, if the building is to satisfy C21st requirements.

The £2.0m project is being designed by:

  • Architect - Connections Design
  • Interior Designer - M Studio
  • Conservation Architect - Davies Sutton Architects,
  • Structural Engineer - Mann Williams
  • M&E Engineer - Envirotas

It is anticipated that works will commence on site in 2025.
